I am going to hunt black bear in SE AK in mid May and will predominantly be hunting from a skiff. I have never done this before and wonder how fast those of you who have done this would recommend we travel (while attempting to locate bears along the shore). Just trying to get an idea of how many shoreline miles we could cover in a given amount of time. Thanks, Rufous.

Good luck Rufous...Hope some one up there can give you some good info...Have fun...

Rufous, you will want to stay anywhere between 600 to 1000 yards or more off the shore line. Any closer and you will be too close. Just cruise along as fast as you can and still see the shore clearly. I think you will fall into a natural comfortable speed. I'm so friggen envious I can't begin to tell you. I know exactly what you are going to experience and if the weather cooperates you will have the time of your life. What I'd give to be in that boat with you guys this spring!
