home construction project trade for cow hunt?

I have a large open air pergola at my cabin I need to cover. The pergola will need to be dropped on the back side or reconstructed as it sits flat on deck and wont allow water to rain off. Its a pretty big pergola with 2x10 construction about 20' wide and 10' long. I cant do it by myself and no local contractor will do as its just not a big enough project unless I decide to completely incorporate it into the main roof line of house, which is overkill. it will need to covered to match the green metal roof.

I am looking to see of there are any home contractors/deck/pergola hunters who would like to trade for a private land cow elk hunt. I will pay for your tag ( out of state Oregon is around $600) and all materials. I will provide all the lodging and guide you on the hunt. I cannot guarantee you a cow but you its about a 75-80% chance.

I am guessing about 2-3 days worth of work and the rest of the week can be hunting. You must be in good physical condition in order to hunt my property. It is steep and rocky. You need to be able to shoot 350 yards. If you are not in good physical condition, i am not carrying you off the mountain, so be prepared to be lion food, they gotta eat too.

I dunno, just throwing it out there. If your not a well-known person on this site or least not known by others please do not think about the offer. I have a strict policy of no axe-murderers allowed at my house.

If I had the time to make it to Oregon for a week, I would be all over this! Sounds like pretty simple work for a builder, and a fair trade. GL!

I do not plan to tie it in. The main roof has gutter on it for the roof. the pergola currently goes under the existing gutter. I plan to keep this below that and drop the outer edge enough to roof it so water will not run back into house. Here is side picture

Why do you want to cover it? You will lose some clearance at the outer end by putting pitch in the pergola. Nice place. mtmuley

In the summer its hot and no shade and anytime it rains or snows we can use it. The house faces south. Currently the pergola offers no protection. I have about 12' clearance and shouldn't need to drop more than 8". That's almost 3/4" drop per foot.

And my wife says she wants it covered. We have a covered patio at our house and she wants this one to be covered also.

I've always struggled with the idea of pergolas. I've built plenty of them, but never fully understood the attraction. No shade, no wind protection, no rain protection, and no bug protection. They're just aesthetically pleasing, so I'm told.

Allegedly aesthetically pleasing. Apparently the previous owner thought so as he built two. Useless to me but it should be easier and most effective to use existing material and cover. Maybe OK in moderate climate. This is eastern Oregon and hot in summer and cold and snow in winter.

Also makes much more work on the wood deck below.

My observation. The bottom of the framing supporting the rafters looks to be close to the elevation of the top of the windows. So if you drop those supports to create a pitch in the roof you risk blocking the view from inside the cabin. Might be a good idea to play with pitch drop and mock up possible new elevation of those supports and look at those elevations from the inside so you can get an idea what is acceptable, or not.

Snow will be typically about 6-8 inches but it can snow a foot or so. Every 5 or 6 years we get a good pile up. Typically it never stays too long. We really don't look out those windows as the couch and living room face the other direction. Yes we may loose a little bit but the benefits of enjoying a covered patio outweigh. The main thing is the view is not obstructive from patio. I hung a 2x6 up to see what it would like dropped down and if I stay 12" or under it will be fine.

Be a hard no for me. Cedar shakes and the window sill sitting where the new roof would tie. To great of a chance of ice and water damage without opening it up.
