Flying into Sacramento, then staying a couple nights in Calistoga and then headed to the Redwood NF. Any recommendations on someplace to stay near there? Arcata? Eureka?

Then on to Shasta Lake and Yosemite for a couple days. Then back to Sacramento.

Anything that you would suggest along the way. So far I am thinking wine, big trees, wine, big rocks, wine….

thanks much….Miller

Take your bow and hunt the Mendocino National forest for Blacktail. Not far from Calistoga is Upper Lake. Just out of Upper lake towards Lake Pillsbury. Or take your fishing pole and Bass fish Clear Lake.

Wouldn't that be great, but obviously this trip is not revolving around me. That being said, my actions next week may have some impacts on how my hunting season plays out this fall.;)

Ferndale is a cool little town. My wifes family is from there originally. I believe theres a couple of nice B&B's there. Its not too far from Eureka either. Let me know if you decide to go check it out and Ill get some particulars for you.

You will be in the hart of wine country. You should stop by a couple and get some pantie hose remover. A nice one is Sterling vineyards they have a tram that goes over the valley. Rombauer is a nice place to visit. Dinner at Rutherford grill is the bomb and will not break you( bring your own bottle of wine free corkage). Anything else you need help with let me know it my home

Miller, If you get along the coast the Hearst Castle is worth the tour. Pretty cool place. Morrow bay is nice as well. The wine tasting can be fun, but gets old after a few stops. Bring your sandals for the wine tasting.. Homo

Eureka can be a fun town, there is just lots of Hippies there:cool:
Check out the lost coast brewery

Also, just up the road in McKinleyville is Six Rivers Brewery. I have been 3 indian drunk there before. Great beer.

If you have time, Trinidad is a nice little town, about 10 miles North of Arcata. Take a half day trip on the Jumpin Jack for some good bottom fishing.

Mt.Shasta is about 1 hour north of Shasta Lake, and pretty cool mountain.

Bring your sweatshirt for Eureka, and Your shorts and flip flops for Shasta Lake. It is 103 deg. in Redding Right now.

Ohh ohh.. That being said book a hot air ballon ride out of st Helena, Mud baths in Calistoga after the wine tours of the Napa valley. Or I know a spot up in the hunting area that you could stop by and take a dip in the natural hot springs and still get a hunt in while being romantic;)..

Ferndale is a nice place. While in Eureka go check out the Carson Mansion. Go south of Fortuna and head east on highway 36 and check out Grizzly Creek State Park. Awesome trails to walk on through the rewoods. There are a lot of hippies there for sure, that's why I'm in Colorado, the hippies got the redwood mill I worked at shut down.

Blue Plates??? Indiana?? I'm guessing you meant California. Not to be a wise ass, but being Sacramento born and raised Cali hasn't had that magnificent blue and gold for a good 15-20 years. You might see a hippie driving their 1979 toyota celica or 1972 VW bus around with those blue plates still. I'm guessing you haven't been that far west in a while. ;) Now they look something like this....and from the sound of it Miller is proving he isn't this.....
