Hells Canyon Bear Hunting

This fall I hope to hunt bear. I’m applying for controlled tags in western ID and I’ll look at eastern Oregon bear tags too. I’m very keen to hunt hells canyon for bear, looks like a challenging and beautiful area to hunt. Will look at boat access to a remote area.


Has anyone hunted hell’s canyon for bear? Any trips or advice would be welcome.

Lots of bears, and some very big ones.

Lots of bears. Hunted elk and the occasional bear in there in the late 80 early 90s. It’ll be spot and stalk hunting with all the long range shooting potential I guy could want want. We were always north of Hat point, Oregon side. Spectacular country, not for the faint of heart.

My buddy and I as residents, put in for it this season. Brother in law said he'd take us since hes drawn the tag before. Hope we draw, but I never draw in my home state (13years). Maybe this is the year! Lol

I’ve never drawn. I tagged along 3 years ago on the Oregon side with a buddy. We could see the Idaho side. Fun hunt, Taylor made for glassing and long shots. He missed a nice bear. When I find the short video he made I’ll post the link.
