After spending years in an echo chamber where a handful of members twist every conversation toward politics and then angrily attempt to shut down any conversation that does not satisfy their own fantasies, I am happy to see that HuntTalk demands better. I am a retired teacher from northern California/Nevada and appreciate that Randy has engaged, respectfully, in science-based analysis that others avoid.
My passion remains mule deer, even though my opportunities to hunt them appear only every five or six years. Between tags I hunt with my son, targeting blacktails, bear and turkey--with an occasional chukar rolled in crushed Fritos thrown in for good measure. Now that retirement offers greater flexibility, I look forward to burning 20+ years of out-of-state points, but recognize the futility of hunting even a great unit before knowing the country. That considered, I intend to spend the next decade scouting units that (at least on paper) appear promising, provided my knees still bend mostly in the right direction.
