Is anyone else using 2m ham radio for backcountry communication - either regular or emergency - in Wyoming or Montana? I plan to hunt in the Snowies and South of Casper this year, and in the Custer NF near Ashland in MT. Both Laramie and Casper have repeaters, but so far I have not been successful at tying in to them from the backcountry. I am aware of the wilderness profile, but have not really tried to use it.
When I hunted in the Gila NF in NM I was using ham radio to tie in to a repeater network and the autopatch system. This let me make phone calls home.
Thanks for any help.
