Just wondering if anyone can fill me in on the status of taking guns into National Parks?

I seem to remember hearing at one point that they were going to allow concealed weapons in the form of pistols to be taken into parks. Is that the case or did it get shot down?

Anybody?

Legislation passed last year in the credit card reform bill that allows concealed weapons in National Parks. I believe the rules are such that you must hold a cw license that is recognized as valid in the state that the national park is in. So if Wyoming recognizes a ND cw permit you could carry concealed in Yellowstone.

This is from the National Park Service.
To get to the punch of how it works... hopefully this helps.
Congress approved a new law allowing loaded
firearms in national parks starting Feb. 22,
2010. That means people can openly carry legal
handguns, rifles, shotguns and other firearms
and also may carry concealed guns as allowed by
state statute.
While this law changes gun regulations in national
parks, there are still many important restrictions on
the transportation and use of guns under state and
federal laws:
Just a brief clip of info - more if you check out the link...

Do you have to have a cwp in that state, or will one from a home state cover that? I know some states will accept the permit, as far as other areas other than Nat parks and certian busisness.
