Gunnison Sage Grouse listed as Threatened

Wonder if it's a bit of stage setting for the Greater Sage Grouse ruling they have to come out with in '15?

I just hope the listing doesn't get in the way of on going efforts. There's been quite a bit of interest and work going on for that species for a bit of time. Hopefully, this will do nothing more than make more funding and resources available to bolster that work.

I don't think the Service wants to list GSG. It would be a very difficult listing both in terms of the overall health of the ESA and collaborative efforts to keep the bird off the list. If states & the Fed had been aggressive on this in the late 90's, things would be much different.

Rather, we got expedited drilling and lax environmental regulations designed to maximize wells drilled over habitat concerns.

The chickens are coming home to roost, so to speak.
