Got my son. Ruger American Gen 2 in 300 Blackout for his KY stand gun. Almost silent with my can on it. Trying to think what a good gun would be for him to shoot at a little longer distance (200 max) thinking 6mm Creed (since my Dad has one already) any opinions on a good gun that could go out to say 400 as he grows but won’t kick his arm off?

Appreciate the input. I don’t feel like the .223 buys me much over the 300BO? Maybe I’m wrong. 243 sounds interesting I’ve never shot one. He shot Dads 6MM tonight and had no issue at all with the recoil. So many good choices. I would like to have something light and short.

If you've got a 223 or 5.56 AR, go kill some stuff with it. And shoot it at distance, in a breeze, alongside the 300BO. That'll simplify things.

Also, don't pass up 4-H 5mm BB competition. Your county or one around you will have a team when he's old enough.

Surprised I haven't seen anyone recommend a 7mm-08. My wife and son have proven the effectiveness of the caliber time and again. Personally I prefer a 243 pushing a 100gr Partition.

My Dad has a Kimber in 7mm08 and it will knock your shoulder off. Haven’t tried it suppressed.
