Gratuitous Fish and River Photos

So I got invited to salmon fishing NY. Had a hard time envisioning I would enjoy it. But I was tempted into it with antique Hardy rods. It was great. Not sure which rod I have here. But some of them were 1800's. The guy holding my fish rebuilds them. they are fun. Terrible eating so we release everything. I owe him Alaska now.

Im still amazed releasing salmon from the Northwest into the Great Lakes worked. Some day I need to go fish them.

In Oregon this week. Came in a day early and @Cornell2012 arranged for us to float a river with one of his fishing guide buddies and try to net my first steelhead.

30F when we launched. Add those temps to a low water weekday float and we did not see another boat.

I got my first steelhead. It got thumped on the head and brought home.

Matthew thumped his first fish of the day.

In Oregon you have to quit once you kill your second fish, so all others were released. And a lot were released.

I netted 12 steelhead and Matthew netted 10. I didn’t know you could catch that many in a day.

Hard to get good pics when Oregon law requires immediate release of any fish you aren’t going to keep. A few pics as they were removed from the net and returned to the water.

One of my best fishing days in a long time.

That was a spectacular day. I’ve been fishing for steelhead for something close to 60 years from Alaska to the Kalamath and only been in double digits a few times. Well done!

The fish of a 1000 casts. I prefer drift fishing, followed by rolling a Little Cleo spoon or a spinner. Summer runs on the Deschuttes or early fall fish on the Grande Rhonde an 8wt. Throwing any fly designed by Mark Hieronymous.
