Gila Unit 16A – Back for Round 3 and Looking to Learn from the Crew

Yeah, I’ve heard that a lot too. Odds are low, no doubt. I’ve just been lucky.

As for pics—oh I’ve got plenty. But let’s be honest, that’d just be one more thing for you to hate on. 😉
I like your attitude. You’ll fit in nicely around here.

Appreciate it. It’s funny how a simple question about people’s experiences turned into a bit of a ‘you people’ kind of thing lol. Some folks were positive and helpful, others maybe didn’t fully read the post. I mentioned I’m being selective—sure, I could’ve tagged out on a cow or even a decent bull during the hunt, but it’s called hunting, not killing, for a reason.

Just For Clarification, you drew three Gila tags in three consecutive years and you are asking for tips on how to hunt it?
Yeah, got lucky three years running—wild, I know! 😂 And no, the tag soup wasn’t from lack of effort or animals. Just playing the selective game. Not asking how to hunt the Gila—just curious how it played out for others in 16A. Always something to learn from other folks’ experiences.

It’s pretty tough not to get into elk in 16A, just need to reset the thinking that you need to walk really far to find the elk. Hot tip from last year is to turn off the SxS and walk a bit before you bugle. ( Saw that a few times) I killed a bull that was bedded 400m from a road with a few SxS cruising by me and bugling at the high points.
Haha exactly! I didn’t spend $400 on boots just to ride around all day in a SxS. 😄 We saw the same thing last year—guys bugling from the trailheads like that’s all it takes. Elk are there, you just gotta work for ’em a bit.

And trust me, I’ve got a pic I’ll drop that proves a SxS definitely couldn’t get us where we went!

Sorry. I dislike most people. Your not special.

Good rains this week. More due next week. Several fires burning in area.

Good luck & good hunting.

Fair enough—some folks just like to sound tough online.

Appreciate the weather and fire info. I’ll be out there regardless.

Good luck to you too grouse hunting.
