Heavyweight champion George Foreman died Friday at the age of 76, his family announced in an Instagram post. Foreman's family said he "peacefully departed" surrounded by loved ones.

When I was competitively boxing my style was much different than his but I translated his version of defense, using what your body gives you, into my own style. His own version of humility, love for humankind and perseverance in both boxing and life inspired me. i hope the Champ rests in peace and love.

I ran into Big George in Livermore one evening. He blocked out the entire doorway. We had a short exchange of pleasantries. He was a very nice friendly guy. RIP Big George.

I fought for 12 years as an amateur boxer and watched George as an amateur and a professional. He was a great champion with a huge heart. Rest in peace George and blessings to your family.
