Gauging Interest: Mike Lee Hats

I’m bald. So I wear a hat most of the time. Last summer, feeling tired of wearing branded hats, I had a run of custom patches made so I could style out my own hats, and give some to my friends. Here’s what I made:




Now that Senator Mike Lee has fully identified himself as the country’s biggest turd, I’ve been kicking the idea around of making a new run of hats and offering them for sale here on HT at cost. Here’s the price breakdown:

• Custom Mike Lee patch: $4.25 each (if I buy 50, more if I buy less)
• Decidedly un-flat billed hat: $4.43 each
• Average cost of shipping (estimate): $10
Which puts us at $18.68 total.

I figure some shipping will be higher and some will be lower, so I could charge everyone $20 and donate any and all money left over to BHA.

I just need to know if this is a stupid idea or not. Let me know if you would actually buy one of these if you’re interested. If enough folks are interested, I’ll do it. Just know—it’ll be a few weeks before the hats are ready. Also, I’m not interested in taking custom orders. If there’s another hat color most people would prefer say so and I can open a poll.

Looks like there’s some interest. Thanks to the folks who responded. The thing is, if there aren’t enough folks who want one and I make all the purchases for the supplies, then I’m left with the sunk cost. I’m just a lowly public school teacher and can’t do that.

So if 25 people respond that they want one by Friday, I’ll make it happen. If not, it’ll just go down as a funny idea. Thanks guys.
