I have agreed to sponsor two teens of a single mother family who are hunting for their very first time. As you all know this costs $$$ to do and initial contacts I made indicate a lot of people wanted to help so I created this fund raiser. Any money remaining at end of hunt will be given to Hunting with Heros. Please consider donating even a little bit to make this hunt possible. Gear when you first start out can be expensive so goal is to raise $5000 and pay for everything involved in these teens hunt. I might even have a butcher to donate processing for their first time.

@Big Fin this is the fundraiser you messaged me about.

Hey Doug, I'm getting a dead link?

Neat, got a gift certificate on the way to buy one rifle for them. Now I just need to figure out the GoFundMe or change it to my PayPal account. I appreciate the donation for sure.

OK. Here is what is going to happen soon. The GoFundMe will be live in a few as soon as they change the settings so I can edit. I have to add the following disclaimer: “No funds will be used towards knives, explosives, ammunition, firearms, or other weaponry or accessories”. I will use my PayPal account to receive donates for that part. It's an inactive account I had when I was selling things from my woodcraft website so it will work. I will donate the ammo myself once the rifles are picked up. I will pust a note when the GoFundMe is unpaused.

Good for you Doug for helping.

Having done several of these, I do have some questions.

How do you come up with 5k? Literally everything they need do a pronghorn hunt can be borrowed besides the license.

I can send you loaner optics.

That is a rough estimate to do a hunt for first time with no initial gear on hand. My budget for me myself is around $500 since I am in the area we will be hunting anyways. Plan is to get them their own gear since the family does not have the budget to handle it themselves. That is why I put any leftover funds will be donated to Hunting With Heroes. Preference is to supply enough gear to get them started. Nothing fancy. If I don't achieve goals I got several binos and spotting scopes they can use. Borrowing is not my preferred way to operate.

What if they don’t like it? I’ve had one who said I would rather just shoot it with a camera in the future. What you going to do with a gun they don’t want. Not to mention whose name will the gun be in.

Borrowing for the first time is a lot safer option.

I am NOT going to dwell on the negative. I have known the mother for some time and the two boys took the initiative to do the Hunter Safety Course and after talking with the mother, I decided to sponsor them and make a hunt possible. Goal I hope to achieve is they learn something and pass it on down the road when they reach my age. I prefer not to borrow anything. Always have been that way.

@Dave N answer to clothes. Anyone else wanting to donate clothiing and related items instead of cash shoot a message and I will give you address to ship. Below is direct quote from the mother.

Coat: large, Shirts: large, Pants: they usually wear nothing but sweats which are Mediums. Aiden’s jeans: 30/32, Haven’s jeans 32/32 (That’s what I’ve seen from what they left behind) Socks are whatever size a 13 is.

Gift certificates for the rifles has been received. Anyone got used scopes that can mount on Springfield 30-06 that they would be willing to donate?

Note on GoFundMe account: Due to restrictions previously posted, the money donated will pay for gas for the hunt, food, cabin rental, game bags, clothing (some of which I got offers to donate (used donations is fine). What I can't spend the GoFundMe money on is weapons, ammo, or knives but I got most of that via direct donations and I am buying their ammo myself. All this help getting these boys started hunting is deeply appreciated. Please give what you can. The boys showed the initiative in enrolling in Hunter Safety so I want to make it possible for them to do a real hunt. The family income is pretty tight so it is hard otherwise.
