Frontal shot on elk

Part of me as a bow Hunter says to myself “if I can kill a turkey. I can hit the vitals on an elk.“
I don’t know how many turkeys I have killed with my bow. Maybe a dozen?

I can’t think of another animal with a smaller kill zone.

I can think of two that I actually had a tracking job on.

I don’t think that accuracy is the limiting factor. It may be the lack of a clear aiming point for the archer with a frontal shot on an elk. And of course the heavy bone surrounding it along with the penetration needed for it to be lethal.

If I’m under 20 yards at full draw I’m sure gonna consider it. But an alert bull could wheel at release and catch it in a shoulder.

Remember the pop up 3D contests? A frontal elk situation like that could be a good learning opportunity.

If there are any bow shop owners I’d encourage them to set up something like a pop up 3D as a customer event.

I do not believe that I am comfortable enough yet to take that shot. Possibly if I can get to 15 yds or less; however, even then I would most likely choose to wait.
