Had a productive day got two baits out and did some scouting and will put two more out when we get back from our California trip. Poor timing on the trip lol. Seen a decent amount of deer tracks in the snow and now to see what will show up. Actually a person beat me to my one bait spot. Usually no one hunts there. So I’ll have to move it a bit. I have a spot half mile away I always wanted to try so this is my incentive to try there. Last winter was hard so we will see what made it. Hoping one of these ones made the winter.

If that is the same buck, it looks like he grunted and groaned and finally was able to push out some G4s. Very impressive buck. Following this one!

Can you not wait for a skiff of snow and just follow his tracks from the bait and potentially kill him in his bed?

Surely to god he’s not bedded far from that bait pile.
Seems like there is two types of deer here ones that have a small area and you just play it safe and wait them out. I do well with those ones. And then ones that wander a lot and it’s mostly luck to cross paths. Last year this one started the season further south about a mile from here before disappearing and then by luck I relocated him further north. Once relocated he was in a small area but it was too late and he was done rutting and nocturnal. I sat once at the end of season coyotes killed a deer and came through the bait with a deer leg and he disappeared. I actually thought they killed him because I never had another picture of him again after that.

This bait is half mile east of the bait I had last year just because was lots of deer sign coming into the field. This bait is about 100 yards off the field edge so be as good as chance as any I shoot him in the field one morning or evening. Yesterday didn’t have a deer at the bait all day during daylight so it’s far from a sure thing
