The wife and I took both boys (7 and 4) for a wee hike in the Hoosier National Forest yesterday. Had no idea where we would end up, so we found a trail head, parked and found where it led us. I was packing a shotgun incase some squirrels wanted to commit suicide, but between the hooting, hollering, stick banging, and calls for us to hurry up no squirrels were harmed on this trip. The trail led down hill all the way from the car to the edge of Lake Monroe. The wife and I were a bit concerned how the boys, especially the youngest would fare on the walk back up. About 3/4 way back to the car my wife asked Kellen, "Are you tired? Want to ride on dad's shoulders?"

He responded, "No mom, being in the woods gives me energy!"

She stopped and looked at me with some concern on her face. I just chuckled.

"What have you started with these two?" she asked...

I think she's starting to see the picture of our future quite clearly! :D Lots of time spent at sporting events and in the field!

Peninsula Trail? That's a good one.. 5-6 miles if I remember right.

Me and a buddy are planning on canoeing in to the Deam from the Crooked Creek boat ramp this weekend for some armed camping. Done that a couple times before in the summer with a rod and reel, will be the first time hunting.

Not sure on the trail name. I don't think it went that far. It was off the road that heads to the Boy Scout Camp (Ransburg).

An armed canoe trip could be fun in that country! Good luck and post some pics once you get back.

Oh, wasn't the Peninsula Trail then.. That one runs from Tower Ridge Road up to the lake. I just google mapped it, and it looks like you guys were on the other side of the highway.

We live just east of Bedford, so every now and then we take the girls up around there for a short hike and a meal at the Scenic View restaurant.

Sounds like you had a blast with the kids. Good luck on the hunt LCH. I haven't been seeing very much deer activity up here in central IN so hopefully it picks up where you guys are heading.

Thought I'd post an update. This time it was my oldest. This weekend is the firearms deer opener and I'll be taking Spencer. Earlier this year he shot his first deer during youth season in which I couldn't carry a gun. I told him that I'll be taking my gun with me this time and asked him if he'd let me shoot a deer or two. His response, "Only if I can't get a shot!". Looks like I've got him hooked!! ;)
