Another for the knowledgeable, what does the thick banding indicate? Or is it two years of growth?

Not 100% certain, but I’d guess that double band was the result of either a particularly harsh winter/spring or more likely, a disease event.

I counted it a full year of growth.

That little double annuli still only indicates one year of growth. There was just some sort of physical stress that caused the double.
