Football General Talk

Yeah but...

The Seahawks' offense was pretty terrible and regressed substantially from weeks prior. Darnold, in particular, was not good. It just emphasizes how great the D was last night.

Like Maye, Darnold had recent injury history. Some people say Darnold did a lot to get them to the Super Bowl, so it's ok for other players to pick up the slack. And Pats did a good job taking JSN out of the game (though Darnold just missed that one pass that would've been a TD). I was quietly rooting for Kupp (Pac NW native!) to get another MVP but didn't work out.

Not taking anything away from Walker, but too bad Seattle didn't also have their 2nd RB Charbonneau (recent ACL tear). Walker was great and always fun to watch, but as Collinsworth said in the 1st half after he missed a catch, "he can't block and he can't catch". Had Seattle had the 2 RBs as featured almost all year, even with JSN iced out, we might have seen a higher score.

The patriots and the AFC just weren't that good this year and it showed. Im not trying to knock the pats fans here, but that was the worst team to make the superbowl in my lifetime. They beat 1 team all year and that was week 5 against Buffalo. 11 teams they beat this season fired their coaches....11 thats insane. As a bills fan It makes Josh Allen and the Bills season look like that much more of a failure.

People saying Pats should get a harder schedule next year. Will be interesting what Miami will do, re-tooling, but hope the Bills make the SB next year. Allen would be fun to watch.

Interesting views on the game.

The Patriots D was pretty darn good most of the game...especially given how often they were out there.

Darnold was under pressure a lot. It did affect him...both he and Maye missed some open looks due to the pressure they had.

IMO the difference in the game was the constant pressure the Patriots allowed.

I thought the Patriots could have tried more quick hitters and designed roll out/misdirection stuff to overcome the Hawks D.

Very brief and tight windows for both throwers...both were strong arming short throws more than usual, very well could've been more ricochet turnovers. Kupp is a baller....

I think the 23 yr old QB made Seattle defense look pretty good.
Brady in his prime would have been the only QB that could have picked that D apart. Like Jason said, when you get that much pressure rushing 4, that leaves you throwing into double coverage all game. I mean Maye had two good throws all night, the first was into like quadruple coverage that could have just as easily been a pick.

Seahawks D is just that good. The 49ers beat them by the widest margin all year in week 1, it was by 4pts....
They then proceeded to stomp the 49ers 13-3 then 41-6 at the end of the season holding the 9ers without a touchdown.
Looking at their schedule and scores that D is legit.

I so wish for some defense. mtmuley

Seahawks defense was otherworldly. They put on a master class.

Happy for Darnold. He didn’t play great statistically, but he didn’t turn the ball over and did what they asked of him while being pressured at a crazy rate. He played his tail off the entire postseason.

Put $5 on Kenneth Walker III as SB MVP before the game. Wish I’d have added a zero or two to the initial bet. Paid out 9x.

Fireworks were going off in town after the game. Local kid Grey Zabel who won three state titles in HS football, two national titles at the FCS level at NDSU, drafted 18th overall in last years draft now gets to add Super Bowl Champion to his resume. Great kid. Congrats to him.

Im gonna come clean as a Patriots fan. They had a easy regular season schedule. The two playoff snow games they had some lucky breaks. Crap weather aside, it was evident Maye has merit, but his intuition under pressure needs to mature. As well, the rookies on the left side of the O- line got schooled. Seahawks gobbled them up.
Hats off to Seattle. They played through the playoffs like a team that belongs, and deserved rings.
Next year a fresh slate. Looking forward already.

Good take. I personally don’t believe they would have beat Denver if Nix had been able to play. I know you can’t really go on what ifs. Heck of a season either way.
