Football General Talk

Incredibly expensive, and required a long term contract. If the rest of the team was younger with years of team control in hand it might have made some sense, but the vikings were one of the older teams in the league with needs at multiple positions.

I wouldn't have assumed McCarthy could start for another year.

Jones could have been had more cheaply for a shorter contract, but he want a legit chance to start...vikings should have given him that, didnt, so he signed with Indy for less money than the Vikings offered.

Darnold was cheap and short term for an NFL contract. It was cheaper than Geno.

Sorry you are a fan. mtmuley

100 million dollars is cheap?

Easy
to be an armchair qb...

With the money the vikings didnt spend they resigned a key spendy cb, went out and got a few D linemen and O linemen. They simply could not do all that if they resigned Darnold...and would have wasted any chance to do what good teams do to build l
A team that contends for it all every year...start with a young cheap qb you control for years while building around him.

It is cheap for the NFL. They also built in “outs.” When’s the last time the Seahawks had a losing season. Snyder knows what he’s doing. What’s cheap? His salary is 33.5 million this year. Where does that rank? 18th.

I do get your point. You need to be able to rebuild, but you can’t win without a functional qb. Do you think JJ is the future? Time to deal Jefferson?

This game could have gone either way.
Patriots will play better in sunny Super Bowl
Per da bears last weekend, I feel in the playoffs getting points when you can is key. Had the broncos kicked the field goal in the first quarter, the game would have gone to OT.

Edit to add: especially early in the first quarter, when the outcome is far from decided.

From a Colts fan that HATES the pats! 🖕🏼😉

While the Rams storm back, let us take the armchairing another step further. Where do you all think the Vikes would have finished this year if Darnold had stayed? I would guess playoffs for sure. Maybe second round.

Just look at poor Jefferson’s numbers. There qb play was some of the worst in the league.

Biggest arm chair. mtmuley

Cant do that in a vaccum.

Take away one of either their new free agents guard Frees or Center Kelly, and also take away either cb Murphy Jr. or DTs Allen and Hargrave.

Vikings could not have signed them all had they given Darnold the contract Seattle gave him.

So then compare Darnold behind an O line not nearly as good as Seattle's and the one he had in Seattle.

Still think we make the playoffs.

Meanwhile, THIS is a championship game!
