Does anybody know what the green projection on the back of some player's helmets is all about? I think I have seen them only on defensive players. It is usually lime green, regardless of the team colors. The Detroit defensive back that was injured late in the game last night was one example. I think his name was Branch.

I thought that earlier, but then I saw one of them actually had a mouthpiece used normally and the thing sticking out of his helmet. On the other hand, I have seen players with multiple mouthpieces hanging from their face masks, which seems ridiculous. And many who simply do not use the mouthpiece that just dangles out there as they run.
In any event, from the best views I could get of any of these things, they do not strike me as a mouthpiece. Could be wrong.

There are Bears fans that are in the first grade right now that have only seen the Bears beat the Packers once in their life and their parents have never seen them win a Super Bowl. So why are they Bears fans?
