The hornady OAL gauge is used to measure the location of the lands. The headspace comparator gauges are used to compare the shoulder location on brass.

Also comes in handy to measure your Base to Ogive when seating bullets. Measuring OAL can be tricky if the tip gets a little buggered up, but the ogive will be the most accurate/consistent point on your bullet.
