Fierce or Christensen Arms?

I have two Christensens. One Mesa and one Ridgeline. Both good rifles. Shoot better than me. Both have killed lots of elk and deer.

My only complaint is the bolt. It doesn’t run as smoothly as I would like. But as long as I don’t short pull the bolt it will reliably grab the next case and load it. It just isn’t smooth.

I have a Mesa in 7mm mag. It is good and shoots quite well with several factory loads. Only issue I have with it is the bolt. It is pretty touch to run after firing a round. I reached out to Christensen and they said they use a stronger spring and that it should break in. I can't tell if it is breaking in...

Assuming by tough, you're talking primarily about bolt lift? How does bolt lift after a dry fire compare to bolt lift after actually firing a round?

If it takes a similar level of effort, there's just a lot of cocking effort and their comments about spring rates might hold some water. If its much stiffer with a fired case in the chamber you're either over pressure or have other functional issues.

If you havent already, try adding some grease to the contact points of the lugs and cocking ramp on the bolt.

I just went down the rabbit hole of getting a suppressor and have a new Christensen Arms FFT in .300 WSM coming in on Friday. For the money I paid (almost $400 off their list price) I think it's going to work out better than trying to get my Kimber Montana cut and threaded. The 18.5" barrel should work very well with the new suppressor.
