Taking some time this weekend to get my food situation lined up for next week.
Used the search tool but didn’t turn up much, so I started a thread.
I’ve got a double batch of sloppy joes, and a double batch of burger/potato/pepper skillet cooked, bagged, and frozen. Also planning on a couple nights of brats, and a couple nights of freeze dried. Hopefully we can supplement with tenderloin and not get to most of it.
The menu isn’t my favorite stuff, but it’s all quick and easy and gets your fueled up.
I know a burritos get a lot of love. What else you folks like to pre make for camp?

I’m a lazy chef in truck camp. Really lazy, I’ll eat mountain house. Less lazy, campfire hot dogs/brats and sandwiches. With a little more effort, we’ll bring frozen meals and heat them in boiling water. Use the vacuum seal bag to eat from, toss trash in the fire.

Upcoming elk trip has elk and broccoli, chili, elk stroganoff, Manwhich and a few other meals planned. Obviously hot dogs JIC. Breakfast never gets more complicated than oatmeal pouches, sandwiches for lunch.

I normally hate canned beans, but this summer I ate a ton of these with camp supper:

Every other canned bean is stupidly over-the-top sweet. These are a little sweeter than I'd like, but definitely better than the rest. I ate them with burgers, dogs, pulled pork, Texas sausage, everything. They're pretty dang good, and will be featured in many camp suppers from now on.

One thing I love to do is smoke a pork shoulder and use the extra for camp meals. I usually use it to make pulled pork sandwiches or carnitas. Pre packaged in food saver bags boil/simmer for 10 minutes or so cut open add a bun or tortilla accordingly. With a little instant Spanish rice or a can of beans you have a meal ready pretty quick after a long day in the field. Fajitas, general Tso chicken or similar (is really good with some instant rice), ham&beans, and chicken marsala are all on my short rotation of food saver bagged meals.20240814_173144.jpg

Hot weather foods, pasta salad, taco salad take the stuff to make there, baked bean with sausage, burgers, brats and sandwiches. Toss in all the snacks chips and cookies. I also plan on going to town for at least one meal.

I want simple - steaks, tacos, brats. I’ve seen where people freeze meals then boil it, I’ve never tried it but it sounds like a good plan. I’d rather eat tuna packets and ramen or mashed potatoes than a mountain house.

I usually have like 20-30 burritos already made and wrapped in foil, ready to be warmed. Our fav ski dinner is instant loaded taters and spam. Brauts and kaut are easy. But I often press the easy button and go freeze-dried.

Got my brother coming along so for my tag so I’m trying to make sure he’s all squared away. He’s simple too, but if it was me by myself, it’d be pretty down and dirty, hence my new thread.
I’m not shy on eating oatmeal packets dry and nothing but meat, cheese, and nuts.

Whats the tag? Maybe I missed it before.

Spaghetti, sauce and meat in ziplock or vacuum sealed bags and frozen. Dunk in light simmering water bath until heated. Sprinkle some parm cheese and you’re dining like a king with very little effort in camp.

Premade salads are dump, stir and chow down. This is my house’s favorite:

It feels fancy, but it’s so simple….a precut charcuterie spread of cheeses, meats and assortments of fruit and veg. A couple of different kinds of crackers and you are golden. Perishable items easily store on ice in a Tupperware style container

A little ceremony I like to do is eat some of last trip’s animal on the next trip.

For example, I saved a couple elk summer sausage sticks from my last elk as well as a couple roasts that will be jerky for this October’s trip.

Also my wife bought these things called Souper Cubes which are two cup servings in a silicone tray. Then you pop them the frozen squares out and put four to a gallon bag. Works for soup or any soft food.

My all time favorite is a frozen vac sealed serving of lasagna. I heat it up by simmering in boiling water. It’s a great pick you up on a cold hard hunt.

I actually look forward to the Peak, MH, Gastro Gnome meals while hunting.

Id eat them at home if they weren't so expensive and caused so much methane production 😉

depends on the hunt.

i'm definitely planning to take some pulled pork to wyoming this year.

but there will be mcdoubles and burritos too.

and a big ass bag of peanut butter M&Ms

in any event, not a big fan of "cooking" while hunting.
