For no apparent reason that I could tell. Maybe it smelled like fish, or maybe a rock chuck was inside the bear was trying to get at. Hard to say, but this kayak was stacked behind the garage with several others. A bear clawed up the side, dragged it about 75 yard down into a fully where it appears to have hung up on the rocks. And the keel got chewed up, punctured, and significantly damaged. Pretty weird. We get bears around our house every so often, it's usual this time of year, but they're not usually destructive like this.

Similar thing happened to me on an elk hunt. We stashed the elk head away from camp probably 1-200 yards up in a tree. We had our gear (rolled up tent, sleeping pads, crocs and a water bottle with water in it) none of which was in contact with food or food odors up against a big tree where we were camped. Came back for last load to get the head and the rest of our gear and there was a young black bear rifling through all our stuff. Ruined my nalgene, put a couple holes in my crocs, destroyed my sleeping pad and just put holes in our tent bags but not the tents themselves like it was probably just picking those up and moving them IDK?
