IMG_0236.jpegRecently had the pleasure of going on a guided hunt for free range wild animals on a gigantic private ranch of over 7,000 acres in northern California, it was truly epic!

Achieved a long held goal of finally getting a black bear, also got my best deer yet, a 4x3 blacktail buck, and a bonus pig.

If only hunts like this were realistic on public land anywhere near me, I'd never need to buy meat at a store, lol. The guide was great, but the abundance of uneducated game on a working ranch where the animals are used to seeing people, but not used to being hunted, makes hunting so, so, so, much easier!

I just hope I am not spoiled for the rest of my life after this epic hunt.

By the way, both the bear and pig were taken with my new favorite hunting rifle, Browning BAR in .308, and the all copper Sako power blade bullets performed flawlessly. The bear dropped quick with a single shot through its lungs while quartering away from about a 100 yards.

If this is your first time big game hunting then yes, definitely ruined/spoiled! Congrats on the deer bear and hog! Looks like it was a great time
Not my first time, but the definitely the most epic!

Most of my prior hunts have been solo on public land and involved taking my weapon for a long hike and not seeing any game animals at all.

Must be somewhere in the A zone eh?
Congrats, and hopefully you don’t get poison oak easily lol
Thanks, northern A zone near Laytonville, CA.

I don't think I've ever had anything happen to me from poison oak, maybe growing up in southern Nevada and hiking a lot in the desert with shorts got my leg skin so used to being scratched up by various plants my body just doesn't care anymore, lol.

Yeah I’m lucky I don’t get much of a reaction either. I remember back in the day fighting fire for USFS them giving us those little vials of Imunoak to drink to “desensitize” ourselves. That shit was prolly worse than scratching!
