Endangered Grizzly Bear Photo Thread

Long time lurker...first time poster!! I’m in the game! The unlimited units have had my attention for a couple years and I’m ready to see what we can turn up!!

Still wondering why the heck I would want to head in there with the bears for a narrow chance at a ram!?! Especially when I could easily be chasing screaming bulls no where near a bear!! It seems there is something wild and special in that country that is calling me, at least for one trip in!!

I did most of my Unlimited sheep hunting in the '80s and '90s when I was in my 40s and 50s, AND I had my own horses for many of those hunts.

But, I was 71 when I did my Dagestan Tur hunt in Azerbaijan, and those mountains were steeper and more rugged than any of my sheep hunts here at home, and in Canada.

I leave the unlimited tag out of my order when I buy/apply for the rest of my licenses online.Then I go buy one at Walmart. If I ever kill one of those rams I'm framing the Walmart receipt right next to the mount.

Does it just continue up from 180lbs or does it peak somewhere and pack weight starts to go down? Asking for a friend who's over 180...

While we were using up time in Maine after a 15 minute moose hunt, with several days before return flights, we decided to hike Katahdin. The lady at the gate turned us away because we had missed the latest start time by 15 minutes (who knew there was a cut-off?). It was for our safety.

I think the USFS should have similar gatekeepers at the trailheads for the unlimited hunt and turn you away if your pack is too heavy based on someone’s criteria. It would be for your safety.
