Big score! I just drew my first colorado elk license for Unit 56 in the Nov.5 -13 season. Any advice from all you veterans out there on Unit 56, or just hunting late season bull elk in general? I appreciate all the help!

I am not sure how much this will help but I bow hunted 561 with a guy that had hunted that unit for over 20 years. We could see 56 from our campsite. It was just on the other side of the highway from where we hunted. He had showed me areas that they also gun hunted in. The terrain can be pretty steep. Based on what I have read in that area and what he had told me is that the elk are typically moving into the lower pastures and private land by then. There is a lot more open area on the bottom and you might be able to glass better. There is a GFP office in either Poncha or Salida, can not remember which. They should also be able to help you. By the way, most of the hunters we encountered where right on the roads and trails. Not too many left the trail.
