Has anybody ever hunted with one? No matter how quiet they think they are trying to be you can hear them tromping on every piece of brush and twig in the valley.
Some guys just walk heavy, but you would think.....?

I have been with 1 elephant, loudest damn thing I ever brought hunting!! Took my 12 year old nephew (4'8, 55 pounds) elk hunting last year... pretty athletic kid, but I have NEVER been around someone that makes so much noise out in the woods. Never heard anything (creature or human) make so much noise... and at 55 pounds!? I mean, I couldn't even comprehend how loud he was, I even had to look back a couple times to make sure he wasn't breaking branches on trees on purpose (just being a kid, goofing around) because he was so loud. Thankfully he wasn't! He stepped on every twig on the trail, crunched every dry arrowhead leaf as slow and loud as humanly possible, tripped/stomped/stammered over every single log, and every step he took sounded louder and more clumsy than the previous. I won't even get into the candy wrappers (all i will say is mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Jolly Rancher hard candies which are individually wrapped, and mini Almonds Joys - also individually wrapped- are the loudest thing to try and unwrap on earth, period). And on top of it, once we finally did see a bull (whom was bedded and had no idea we were there - somehow due to our noise level). My nephew was so excited that he thought he needed to tell me their was "elk", instead of telling me, poking me, or hinting their was an elk (which I had noticed about 5 seconds earlier), he screamed I think as loud as he could, "ELK!!" The bull obviously got up and started running through a draw. Knowing the area, I got my nephew set up and told him where the bull was going to stop at, broadside. When he came to that spot, I cow called, the bull stopped broadside, and to be cliché... the rest is history.

In highschool I took a buddy out with me, he didn't miss a breakable branch. Crunch, crunch, snap, 'SORRY' {giggle}. He was a good friend and I just shook my head, it was almost near comical near the end.

My wife is pretty loud too, she's real heavy on her heels, especially around the house. It's funny, I don't know if it was because I was raised hunting and when I wasn't I was always playing "war" with my friends in the woods, but I can navigate through the woods with my eyes up most of the time and be pretty damn silet.

Don't have to be sorry. I asked a question and you gave me the answer. My nephew started out like that. Pockets full of candy individually wrapped also. Also tromped around with his head down eating his candy and drinking all of his water in the first hour. Now in his 30's is a hunting/gutting finely tuned machine:hump:

I had just recently moved to NC back in the late 70's and met a guy from Alabama whose wife worked at one of my accounts. When she learned that I hunted she set up a visit and we went over, played cards and regaled each other with our hunting stories, as well as a lot of conversation about how stealthy we were in the woods. That out of the way we went deer hunting soon after and in traversing the necessary geography to get to the hunting area, we were going very slowly and thought we'd never get there. We wound up realizing at the same moment that we were both trying to out sneak the other after so much braggadocio about our skills, and with a glance at each other and a big grin at the moment of discovery, we changed pace and tromped back to where we needed to be. We still have a laugh over that on occasion.

My FIL is one. I went Whitetail hunting with him in Idaho shortly after I was married. He wouldn't leave the skid road, and stomped through the snow. His pack frame squeaked every step, and his nylon gaiters swished every step.

We moved to CA and I haven't hunted with him since.

My son is 6'2 and has a size 13 1/2 boot. He's only 14 I tell people it's like hunting with a newborn giraffe . He's all wobbly legged and those feet are like hunting with scuba flippers on Ahh the patience it's teaching me.
