When is it too much?

My family of 5 ate an elk and 3 whitetail last year. Just ran out a few weeks ago.

The couple times in my life I have harvested two elk in a year, I have turned the majority of one of the elk into breakfast sausage/snack sticks/etc, and some of that does get given to friends/family.

I've got an elk tag, a pronghorn permit, and 4 deer tags in Montana this year. If filled we will eat all of em. I do wonder about folks who travel the west ending up with way more protein than they need. Not objectively saying it is right or it is wrong, but culturally it does seem weird to me to shoot something knowing you're just gonna give the meat away.
