Pray for a frost WI guys. Besides where the DNR reported the bug, i have solid info of multiple deaths in Clark county. All bucks with blood coming out of the mouth when found.
a good frost will knock this out for us.

We got hit pretty hard in Illinois here too. Pretty sad all the shed hunters are out looking for skulls. A friend of mine walked on day and found over 50 deer with 6 bucks under the same tree. Pretty sad........

Nature at its best. It is no big deal and happens every time that it gets hot and dry. The disease is spread through gnats (midges). If you have lots of deer, then you will see more of it. No prayers needed. It is nothing to even be concerned about. If the deer looks sick, then don't eat it! Blue tongue and ehd are essentially the same and there is nothing you can do about it. We have had a few deaths around here, but in the past we have had lots. It never has hurt the population for very long.

Get a grip and accept nature for the cruel bitch that it is. That is a poor way to die, but it is what it is and no one can have any impact on it. The best thing that you can do is to shoot the hell out of the does and thin the population so that there are fewer deer to die that rough death.

Well said.

Homo Sapien is the first and only Species to breed weakness. Emotion has interupted natural selection.

Cancer has gutted my family, if we would let it run it's course, instead of trying to "cure" it. Eventually our species would breed it out.

Sbhooper, maybe it happens every year in your area but not in Wisconsin. Deer is pretty much the only big game we can hunt here so we take it seriously. Btw, my grip if fine

Schmalts, you are dead on. we have had it hit hard here 2 out of the last 3 years. very noticeable reduction in deer numbers. never even came close to seeing the numbers come up from the first big kill off.

Showing 32 degrees in Spencer this am. Hopefully this will help things out. Haven't seen it firsthand but have heard things.

A hard freeze will take care of it. It does not matter how concerned you get about deer numbers, because there is nothing you can do about it whether it is your only game or not.

Does this just affect Whitetails? I have heard of blue tongue, but only in whatetails

Just curious, and I know it must suck for you guys

We had it in our area in NW Louisiana one year. Mostly around areas where the deer mixed with areas where cattle were. Two years later we had larger deer and larger racks on the bucks. Still sucks when it hits your area. John

It will affect other big game. A lot of times it seems to be a problem in the low land and creek bottom type of terrain. I know it took a hard toll on the whitetail population in Montana a couple years ago.

SE South Dakota and northern Nebraska along the missouri river have been hit pretty hard also. The GFP is offering refunds for some counties

We are having a ton of reports in the county south of here of several dead because of the "Blue tongue" I have found one dead this summer myself. Usually will find them around a water source, I guess it makes them thirsty, increases their heart rate, they won't eat, and a couple days later it kills them. EHD and "Blue tongue" are about the same disease on paper. It does effect mule deer and antelope as well as whitetails. It can be spread through saliva and such, so, if you have an infected deer hitting your mineral block it is possible to have it spread. Its a bad deal.
