eastern montana

My son and I are debating on going out to the eastern part of Montana the week of Thanksgiving for mule deer. We have never been to Montana so don't know much about it. Any help or suggestions on where to begin to look at would be appreciated.

I'd try and stick to the southern half of eastern MT. The north got hit with a pretty bad winter last year.

Do you already have a tag?

They aren't for sale over the counter, you have to apply and draw the tag if you are a nonresident.

I have talked to the department of game and they told me there are some general deer tags left that we can buy over the counter that are good for the whole state. So we are now just trying to figure out somewhere to start our search on where to go.

That's interesting. I didn't realize they ended up with leftover deer tags.

Just checked online and there are still some Big Game Combo licenses available for reissue but those are $912. I didn't see any deer only combo licenses available.
