With the weather coming in I needed to get out. Having no luck deer or elk "yet" something had to drop ~SMILE~.
I woke up to a bit of rain and thought “PERFECT”. It was my first trip out by myself to this new spot I got permission to hunt. I’ll have pics of the location later in the year. I drug ALL my Decoys out not knowing what I wanted to do Exactly. 3+ dozen Geese Decoys and 11 duck decoys.. One duck decoy got lost somewhere, I think A kid of mine took it.
Anyways, 2 trips out back and forth from the truck and I layed out 1 dozen Goose Magnums. I started laying out the duck spread and It was already legal shooting time. I had a hen Malard fly in and hover almost waiting for me to leave. Funny that I didn’t have my gun with me. I decided not to set up the other 2 dozen decoys and got back to the blind. 3 mins passed and the first greenhead that flew in got shot. I ran over and couldn’t catch it. I took a close shot and Needless to say I was a bit close. If you count the heads in the pictures it doesn’t add up to the # of bodies … OOPS !!!
Anyway, 8 mins to 8AM rolled around and I called the office. The secretary said she’d mark me on the board and I asked to get transferred to Dinger (ELK TURD). The first thing he said was .. “You’re goose hunting huh ?” I giggled and said.. “YAH, Kind-of, but also… HEY, HOLD on… HOLD ON…”
I dropped the phone and KABANG !!!!!!!! KABANG !!!!!... 2 ducks dropped. I ran out to get them having to shoot the 2nd one a second time. I grabbed the one and Ran back to the phone…. “HEY DINGER, I think this is a Wood duck” ~SMILE~
After he cussed at me for not inviting him, called me selfish, he said “GOOD LUCK”. I knew he was joking (About the name calling) and we hung up. It was 8:01 and no birds flew in until 8:21. then a lone mallard hen flew in…. I was looking through the Rangefinders getting some distances. I'm trying to figure the range of the birds dropping and the limits of my shooting. I just hear the SSSSSShhhhhhhhhhuush !!! It soared by me at mock 10 trying to flare out to land !!!! I dropped the rangefinders, caught my breath and BANG !!! Another duck hit’s the dust.
I picked up the Decoys at 8:35 or so and a lone hen flew in again.. I hunkered down and on her 2nd fly by I jumped up and “SURPRISE” !!!!!!
THEN it was quickly off to work so I can brag about shooting ducks.. And... YAH, a bit of work too

(NOt bad for a 1 hour morning eh ?)
