Dog Bite While Packing Bull Out

What surprised me was when I told my wife the story(she’s a pretty non violent person), the first thing she said was “you should of shot it, what if our daughter was with you or another young kid encounters that dog.” And like many of you have said, “it probably wasn’t the first time and won’t be the last time that dog bites someone.” She’s a lot more experienced with dogs and animal behavior than me. Thought it was interesting. I personally agree with the bear spray, don’t want to be on the 5 o’clock Jackson news. “Elk hunter shoots Jackson hole dog while out on Saturday morning stroll.”
Who gives a sheet about being on the 5:00 Jackson Hole news. Might wake up some Liberal dog owners in Jackson about controlling their dogs if they know hunters will shoot them if they don't.

Me too ... and it seems every household in the valley has at least two dogs. They are everywhere and constantly underfoot downtown and/or at crowded events. My wife fits me with a virtual leash we we attend a parade or some other crowded event, because invariably I get pissed because some dog is licking my leg or trying to trip me ... as the clueless owner tells all what a wonderful dog he or she has and how they love people. The dogs seen downtown in the summer appear to wish they were home under a tree instead of with some nimrod dog owner who thinks they're so cool for having an ugly dog!

millerkiller77, you got me going ... I'd better go find a cold Miller Draft and chill!

I mean, im one of those that has dogs. But honestly, not a chance in hell its coming into town and walking down the street with me. Its shocking how many untrained mutts are running around this town, being best friends with a schmuck in their brand new truck (Insert overly expensive offroady style truck).

Self admittedly not a great trainer. But my dog comes when called, doesnt leave my sight ever, doesnt bark or howl (unless the damn doorbell rings) Wont even lick a person. Pretty sure im the 1%. Go hike the M trail and your gonna get trampled by peoples dogs that they think the have control of.

My mom was bit on the ankle recently by a pit bull mix while walking with my 12 year old niece and her puppy. It made a deep puncture that ended up getting infected and required 3 rounds of antibiotics and a wound care specialist. But she was glad it was her and not my niece.

Call the authorities and report it. Only a matter of time until it bites someone else, and it may be worse next time.
Agreed. In these situations, it should be reported - a.s.a.p. It is important.

In my experience (yes, I was attacked and bit), they will want to verify the animals medical history as to proper inoculations, etc. You want them to do it too, as you don't want to end up needing the rabbis regime of shots, etc. You will be doing this for your health as well as any potential other victims that might encounter the animal.

They will also want to engage the owner, as the animal(s) wasn't controlled.

I remember this thread from nearly a decade ago.

I agree with most, you shoulda fogged the area with bear spray focusing on the dog and owners.

Some real gunfighters come out of the woodwork on these threads. I mean it’s Jackson Hole…you guys must like threats and being front page news more than I would. I’m not kidding, I 100% guarantee both would happen if that dog gets shot.

Edited to add: Not that there aren’t times to be lethal, but there’s some figuring that needs to be done.
If there had been a dog blocking my access to the Jackson Walgreens for more Advil on Friday, I would have shot that pooch right between the fuggin eyes. 100% guarantee!

I walk in a local park where dogs are required to be on leash. Signs in parking lot and on every freaking trail. About 1/4 times I walk, some dumb ass has a dog running free and determined to protect its dumbass owner from "strangers". I walk with a hickory shovel handle. Ludicrous warnings given: "he won't hurt you" as it runs up to you snarling. And usually dangerous dog variety of pit, mastiff etc. I say "yes you are right, he will not hurt me or even touch me" as I lift up the gorgeous hickory handle with steel base from shovel that I use as walking (beating) stick. I have gotten threats and best one is "my husband is an attorney and we will sue you!" Laughing ... yeah with signs everywhere? How about your wanton egregious disregard for warning signs? I never saw her again prob her husband went nuts. I told her if her dog bit someone, just get out the checkbook and expect 6 figures easily. And doubt if any liability policy will defend her from disregard of highly posted signage.

Its not the bite but the why does it need to happen from owners stupidity and arrogance.

I demand respect from ANY domestic animal. I was a blacksmith for 3 years during recession in early 70's and farm dogs PITA and dealing with backyard horses owned by 14 yr old girls can kill you!!

If a dog does not back down put it down. It will not stop and what if next time a child's face is horribly disfigured? Or worse. Its not the dogs fault but these are aggressive animals that generally cannot be retrained once their wiring has been set. Its a shame but the potential risk is not worth it IMO.

The real PROBLEM is certain people (term used loosely) should never own animals. Its unfortunate their character is transferred to their pets thereby ruining a perfectly good animal.

Sounds like typical heeler behavior, strafing and grabbing at lower legs. They're bread to do it. Not excusing the owners lack of control, or anything. Uncontrolled heelers do that stuff.

detectives are on scene at the 700 block of Sylvan Road near Shelby Forest State Park, where at about 3:30 pm two family dogs attacked a 2-year-old girl, a 5-month-old boy, and their mother in the home. The children were pronounced deceased on the scene.

And this is why I wouldn't hesitate to shoot an attacking dog. Especially a dam pitbull.

Last week walking along the edge of a standing corn field after jump shooting ducks at the end, a large black bear suddenly walked out of the corn fifty yards ahead. My Lab Ellie went charging forward. I stopped her in her tracks immediately. However, she didn't come right back and consequently caught a bit of a whooping. Sorry, but when a dog does something life threatening like that or running across the road or eating stuff in the field they shouldn't, I don't "spare the rod."
