Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

Do you leave your GPS powered on the whole day?

gps is in a pouch clipped to my fanny pack waist belt, unit tethered to the caribiner so I can't set it down and walk away. Turned off until I want to use it.

Dakota 10 fires up and locks much faster than my 10+ yr old etrex vista. The batteries last forever. Last year hunted 28 days spring bear, elk, moose on one set of lithiums turning on and off a few times a day. Never yet had a situation where I wanted it on "right now" and couldn't wait the 45 seconds.

My Rino 4 series uses less batteries with the radio turned off, so I can leave the GPS unit on. It is tough sometimes to discern the trail when it tracks you around your camp for 2 hours before you remember to turn it off!
