Bald eagles show signs of widespread lead poisoning
The resurgence of bald eagles has been heralded as one of the great conservation successes in the U.S. But a study suggests lead is stunting population growth.

The majority of hunters won't switch until it's a regulation. Just a fact. mtmuleyMaybe not the most accurate reporting, weird... Maybe blown out of proportion. I don't know. But, this issue is gaining steam regardless of your personal opinion or ammo preference. Copper monos have made huge strides in recent years. Why not switch? We all do a ton of other things in the name of conservation of our natural resources. Why not this? I've summoned my inner tree hugger.
I surely would. I'm out of business without lead. But then, without a tag, I suppose it doesn't really matter.I wouldn't be opposed to a lead ban if copper or steel etc. ammunition was more readily available and affordable but in today's market it is tough to find ammunition at all. I have also read that birds intake more lead from old paint than from bullets but not sure if that is true
I can't remember a lot about copper mono bullets but. As I recall a box of lead core bullets was somewhere around $20 to $22 for 100. Mono bullets if I remember were something like $50 for 50. I am not wealthy I can see some value in mono bullet's but don't intend to spend the money to try them even! Modern rifles were designed around bullets with a lead core. Imagin that rifle with a longer magazine and throat to allow seating out mono bullets farther? So we have rifles designed for lead core bullets and want to shoot monolithic bullets in them. Copper weight's less than lead so I assume a 165gr monolithic is longer than a 180gr lead core an I would think requires a faster twist to stabilize it. You end up with a rifle your having to go down in bullet weight to make it work with a bullet that may be less desireable at delivering the kill shot. Lot to say for someone that believes he can take any N.A. game animal with a 22 LR!Maybe not the most accurate reporting, weird... Maybe blown out of proportion. I don't know. I'm trying, but I got $$$ in lead core bullets sitting on the shelf. I'm too much a tightwad to get rid of it.The majority of hunters won't switch until it's a regulation. Just a fact. mtmuley
There's sure no shortage of eagles over here also. Both bald and golden.I live a couple miles from a place that is one of the most heavily hunted and recreational shooting areas I have ever seen. On a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday it's nothing to see 40-50 vehicles in the area. Shooting, fishing, or hunting. This area also has more eagles than I've ever seen. The last 6 mile canoe trip I took thru the area the wife and I counted 56 eagles bald and golden. I see anywhere from 15 to 20 eagles everytime I go down there which is multiple times a week. If these numbers were accurate one would think I'd stumble onto a sick eagle after 7 years.![]()
