I say take the extra money saved and take your kids on a trip. If they all like hunting, do that, if not take them somewhere fun. I know for me as the kid in a situation like that, the things I did with my dad are memories that I greatly cherish. When my dad was sick and only had a little while left, him and I didn't talk about the things we had, but the things we did together. FWIW...

Take some of the extra money and buy a Life Insurance policy on yourself for the kids. This way, when you leave this world your kids & hopefully Grandkids will always remember how you always thought of them.

Forget celebrating. Be a good dad, enjoy your son, and help him through college, and be thankful if all your kids still talk to you.
