I just watched Mike Rowe on Dirty Jobs show how to slaughter a cow. Yes, he shot it and then skinned, gutted, quartered it. Now I was kinda shocked by how much they showed of the process. Then he worked with the Butcher to process a cow.
The reason I bring this up is I would love to see an Elk or Deer done the same way for all the obvious reasons. I have a Kitchen in my shop with pretty much everything to process my own animals, but what about the guy who is 32 and just killed his first deer?
It was a great show and I know the tree huggers are gonna hammer him over it! LOL Did anyone else catch it? John

Yeah, I watched it about a few weeks ago. I thought it was great that someone with his notoriety decided to do that.

He did it from start to finish and made no excuses about why. In his normal witty and humorous way, he made it pretty clear that if you want to eat, this is what needs to happen. Either you do it like he did, or you have someone else do it for you.

Very positive, I thought.

I think Spitz and I were watching it down in Kansas. I commented to Spitz that it is a shame that Discovery will let Mike Rowe gut and gill an animal, but Outdoor Channel will not let me show it. Go figure.

I like the fact that Mr. Rowe is a straight forward kind of a guy, and yes people need to know that milk doesn't come from a carton.

There was an episode where he was castrating sheep and had been told by the "experts" that the humane way to do it was with rubber bands. He soon found out that the experts were wrong, probably because they had just read about it and never actually done it. It was a good, enlightening episode.

Here is a link to a video from that episode:

wgiles I actually hunted on the ranchers land about 5 yrs back. My son had an antelope tag and my friend knew Albert so he let us hunt. It was awesome to see the episode. Albert is definately old school!
