Deer - lets see em

A little mid season update.

First deer of the 2025-26 season was my Kansas archery buck.
I’ve killed plenty of bucks on does over the years, but I’ve never had one pushing one through the timber like a bull dozer. It all happened so fast and he appeared at 9 yards. I saw big a nice frame, body, and shot him. Best part is I watched him fall!
He’s now my #3 archery buck size wise. (Not overly important, but cool)

Next up was my first archery doe the season in Missouri. I was in a spot I was trying to behave, but it’s really hard for me to pass does once they get to a certain size….. 8 yard shot and she was done.

Archery doe #2 of the season was just kind of fun. She came in solo on my set up with no other deer around. She looked at me wrong (she didn’t look at me at all) and I put an arrow in her at 10 yards.

Rifle season kicked off and I had some people at work who could have benefited from some meat going into the holidays. So one evening after work I took my tikka for a walk to see if I even could remember how to shoot a rifle. Interesting enough one of my barn cats decided to follow me.

About 250-300 yards into our corn field still hunt we both came across a big fat doe at 100 yards. With pickles the cat on the range finder and spotter and me on the .270, we made quick work of her. I can honestly say I’ve not heard of many people killing with a cat in tow.

Long story short, the freezer is filling, friends are benefiting from our successes, and memories are being made. This doesn’t include all the people I’ve helped get their first deer ever, but that will be for the end of the season. Until then, good luck and shoot straight.
