Deer Camp is More Fun

Harvested a real nice eight point whitetail on our back forty the other day, hunting our home farm, by myself. Although I wouldn't trade my ability to do this for anything, I've come to the conclusion that it's far more fun going on a hunting trip, or to deer camp with your group of friends.

The group camaraderie just makes everything a lot more fun. Camp fires, meals, all the b#llshit stories, sarcastic ribbing, etc. Plus having some help to retrieve game and celebrate a harvest, help with the processing, etc. There is also the fact that you are away from home for the sole purpose of hunting, and not thinking about what's going on back at the house, what chores you could be doing, etc. It's all about hunting for a brief time.

I do think we all need to be able to hunt and harvest solo, and handle things on our own and I'll take backyard hunting solo over not hunting any day. A lot of my midwestern whitetail hunting friends do all of their hunting within a short drive of home and have never taken a distant hunting trip or experienced a deer / elk camp. I'd strongly encourage you to get that tradition started.

I agree with Doug! I look forward to hosting our deer camp annually but the time it’s just me or my kids is special! I’ll keep them both!
