After many months of researching and deciding what I really wanted I finally settled on building a 6.5 creedmoor on a Remington 700 action. It started it's life as a 7mm08 SPS. I ordered a custom Lilja #4 contour 22" fluted barrel, HS Precision stock and a Timney trigger. I had the smith true the receiver, lap the lugs, and skim bed the HS Precision stock (which took 6 months to get). The bolt was fluted and bolt handle skelotonized by Kampfeld Custom. I plan on having the rifle cerakoted soon in sniper grey with contrasting bolt flutes. This rifle will be my go-to rifle for pretty much everything except elk. Should be sending some 140 grain accubonds downrange soon, going to out my leupold vx3 back on it today! Can't wait for this fall!!!! Enjoy!

Looks good.

Be aware that they greys from cerakote are a rough finish and the action will not be as smooth. If I had the choice to cerakote again, I would not use a grey on the reciever/feedrails/lugs.

I am having my bolt Microslicked instead of cerakoted to keep things smooth and to hold up to the wear.

Thanks for the heads up on the grey Cerakote, I'll have to check out the microslick.

I just weighed it, and it comes in at 8 pounds 11 ounces with 4 shells. It's a little heavier than I wanted but the gunsmith told me the Lilja #3 contour doesn't fit the HS Precision stocks as nice as the #4 and looks small. This rifle should have VERY manageable recoil, probably 243ish-like.

I didn't like the crappy phone camera pictures above so I took a few more with my real camera.

No doubt it will be a sweet shooter! Unless you were really going for an ultralite rifle, I think a rifle that is 8.5ish pounds, ready to hunt won't be bad. If you really wanted to, you could save a few ounces really quick switching to Talley Lightweight rings and a leupold ultralight scope, might get you pretty close to the 8lb mark, I am not sure it would be worth it though.

Nice package, I love rifle projects. Karl does a great job on the bolts as well. What powder are you going with?

Whatever I can find! Lol. I picked up some Hornady superformance cause it was available. But I plan on using either H4350 or h4064. These are powders I have read about the 6.5 crowd using with good results but I'm fairly new to reloading and am open to any recommendations. Sounds like it is a pretty forgiving cartridge to reload with good results on a wide range of powders and configurations.

Your H4350 is a good choice, you might look at Reloader 17 as well. Don't overlook Varget either.
