Compact rifle opinions

Another vote for the tikka. (But I'm also a tikka whore. A T3 300WM, a T3x 308, and a T1x 22 all call my safe

I epoxied the lug in place but didn’t like how the action would rock or just drop out of the stock with the action screws removed. I bed the sides of the action afterward at the lug to get it to lock in place. Much better. I didn’t shoot it without the bedding so couldn’t tell you if it even made a difference but I don’t like loose fitting actions in a stock. The neat thing about Tikka is I also put my 7mag in the same stock and tried it out.
I love how the tikka stocks are so easy to change out. I'm not a huge fan of the stock the rifle comes with.

If you are worried about losing velocity with the 20” barrel I wouldn’t. Most standard rifles in 7mm08 are typically in the 22” range I believe.

The 7mm08 is a wonder cartridge and i personally would use it for my one and done cartridge if that were ever to happen.

As for the rifles I have two tikka compact in 243win. Chopped one to 16.25” and use an omega 300 w/ brake on it. Almost no recoil. 7mm08 would have slightly more.

When talking recoil between 308 and 7mm08. I don’t notice the difference. They start with the same case, near the same amount of powder, close to the same bullet weight. Not much difference. It’s really comparable to in 308 stepping down from 165gr to 150.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been a .30 cal die hard for a bit too long so I figured if I get another hunting rifle, I want a nice light do all in something other than .30. I have so much powder in the 7-08 range, I figured why not go with the 7-08 in a compact configuration, then my wife can use it as well. I’m definitely leaning towards the tikka for sure after all the positive responses.

I’d probably buy the tikka and load the 120gr TTSX hot (which is what I do for my wife’s 7mm08) and hunt that the rest of my life. I hunt mostly whitetail in MN but I’d just bump out to the 139gr LRX for out west.
