Hey guys so after researching different units looking on onX mapping and Google earth I'm thinking of starting with unit 43 for are archery hunt in September. Won't be in Salida until the 15th and plan to hunt threw the 1st of October.

Never been to Colorado and don't know alot about the terrain, going to definitely be a big learning experience and if we are lucky enough to harvest a elk that's will be a bonus.
What areas should I avoid or consider starting in. I've been looking over the colorado hunting atlas also looking at the different layers for elk. If anyone wants to PM some info I'd be greatful.

Not what it used to be at all. 2020 study showed the herd is down over 50% over 10 years. The elk that remain largely shelter on big private tracts so are inaccessible. Country is rough - get ready to hike 10+ miles per day and see more guys than elk
