I have drawn a bear tag for unit 45 a friend told me that he had lots of success on the slope of bever creek near talons restaurant. the closest trail head, restaurant and trail is on national forest but the road to the public trail head is on land owned by vail corporation. Does anyone know if I can legally use the road to get to the trail head

Normally I’d say to call the local forest service office, but they might’ve been doge’d. A local game warden though might have the answer.

Don’t key into one spot/drainage/region of the unit though. With the crazy weather they’ve had, it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to plan to be agile and move around until you find the water and food (berries, acorns, etc).

Bears are fun in the sense that they aren’t as abundant, nor easy to spot as deer and elk. But they are very habitual. If you find spot where there’s so many piles of fresh bear scat that it resembles a dog park, you know you’re in the right area. Don’t spend more than a day in an area unless you’re seeing bears, or seeing sign that is less than 24 hours old, indicating that there’s a bear in the area.

That part of the state has a high concentration of bears. It gave me false expectations of what to expect when I moved to Montana

Another question do you think that the bears around there taste good and do you have any recommendations on recipes

Take good care of the meat and they’ll taste just fine. I don’t have any bear specific recipes, but whatever you do, be sure to check the internal temp with a probe and make sure it’s at least 165 degrees

You already drew a CO bear tag for this fall? How? Draw results don’t come out till the end of the month.

I have 3 point for this year so I think it’s a great chance

B-E-035-O1-R is your hunt code with 4-5 grouped units to hunt. Yes you have not yet drawn. And you have more than a great chance to draw, you are 100% to draw.

Never had a bad tasting bear from the few diverse spots I have killed.I would not think twice about wondering about taste in that area.
