Anyone used pointing dogs to hunt Ptarmigan in CO? Can you hunt the Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park??

I'm headed down this weekend to do some scouting and will probably give it a shot with the pups later in the month.

I would assume just about anything above the timberline is going to be public, I guess its getting there that might be the issue?

Have seen a lot of ptarmigan at treeline along the continental divide north of I-70. You'll get a workout in getting up there but they sure don't seem very spooky.

I'm not a bird hunter, so I can't help you much. I can tell you that there is no hunting in Rocky Mountain National Park.

I have hunted them with my GSPs, but I've got to tell ya, ptarmigan are easier without dogs...those birds can flat out disapear! And dogs nearby tend to send out their warning sirens.

Isn't hunting with Britts a challenege anyway?

kidding.

Look forward to hearing how you do!
