CO frist gun season

There are a group of guys i know that go to CO every year and elk hunt. Now if they dont draw they go with there bow. They say there still able to be called in at that time of year. They want me to go. It will most likely be with bow. From what yall know are they still in post rut than and i have never called elk.
So what call should i buy. I was thinking just a cow call. I am most likely wron but that is what i was tbinking. And what brand of call. Thanks

I can't use diaphragm calls (yet!), so I bought the Primos Cow Girl. I find it easy to use, and I think it makes decent sounds. It looks like the Primos Timberline is a newer version of this call.

For a bugle, I've used the Primos Terminator and like it. I found it quick and easy to learn.
