I just got off the phone with the New Mexico game and fish. It looks like they will be bombing a portion of the range on Saturday, the day of the hunt. |oo|oo|oo|oo

IdahoBugler,

That sucks. Remember the sound of bombs going off is the "sound of Freedom".:rolleyes:

What, they aren't getting enough practice over-seas?
Are they still allowing your hunt ID? Or just keeping you out of some of the unit?

They did that to me on my once-in-a-lifetime hunt. Only difference is that year it was only a one day hunt. I still sucked it up, and thought since we were at war, that it was my patriotic duty to sacrifice that morning. Then I found out that the Japanese had "rented out" White Sands for the day. So much for partriotic duty. We actually didn't get to start hunting until 1 pm. As daylight faded out that day, I never fired a shot. Luckily, I've killed two off-range oryx since.

The New Mexico game & Fish is bombing? And they complain about Alaska shooting wolves from planes? ;)

That sucks. I hope you guys still get to hunt, and get to bag your oryx.

...............we will still get a Critter. I ain't S'keerd !!!

Sucks when they cut a 2 day hunt "short" , But I won't complain ;)

................. There is more to the story...

Here are the options.

Option 1: There is a chance they bomb on Wednesday. That will close the southern part of the range. (This includes the area I had planned to hunt thanks to schmalts.) They will open a chunk of the stallion range for us to hunt. They say the area will be equivalent in size. We will still meet at the same time and get to hunt the full two days.

Option 2: They bomb on Saturday and we are closed out for 2-4 hours  we'll see. So we will miss the morning hunt. They will still have the southern part of the unit closed but open the Stallion.

Option 3: Is nothing happens and they don't bomb. Not holding my breath on this one.

Option 4: The refund my money and and get to apply again next year.

We are still going but I wish nothing had changed. I'm sure everything will work out fine. The bummer thing is the Stallion was hunted 2 weeks ago so I wonder if they will be on edge. I guess no more then the ones getting missiles shot at them.

Option 5: They do whatever the heck they want and it don't matter cause we got some mad hunting skills stacked up in a couple of vehicles.

Kinda sucks. I'm sure it'll turn out fine though. We'll do whatever it takes.

I wonder if they ever hit any of the Oryx. I know Chuck Yeager used to shot antelope when training in the west.

0ryx move all day so missing time in the am won'tkill ya. They drag their feet in the morning breifing anyway and get you off about an hour after daylight. we just had 7 oppurtunities in 2 days all within 350 yards. 1 stalk we spent 3 hours within 300 yards off a herd before we decided we couldn't get a shot with the wind. Look at the brightside , time for a McD's stop before hitting the range. Give em hell and lets see some great pics when you get back.

The two day season, the $$$, and the possiblity for stuff like this has always given me 2nd thoughts about applying for this tag. Didn't stop me though....! :D
