Private land and Mtn grouse are still open those 10 days to NR's. You can always go hunt a preserve as well if you'd like. And honestly, the first 10 days of prairie grouse season are hard as hell on dogs. October is where it's at. The 10 day priority applies to pheasant and turkey as well.

The increase in base license and increases in license fees for upland and waterfowl hit in 25. Based on the PLPW report I heard from fiscal last week, there's a liklihood they are contributing to a decline in revenue.

I suddenly have found myself liking spring turkey hunting recently. This has been great. There needs to be similar accommodations made for big game seasons.

I have not been on Hunt Talk for quite sometime. If feels like every time I visit, you are complaining about something. This is a good reminder why I spend so little time here.

Move to Montana if you want to hunt birds the first 10 days…problem solved.

I am grateful that this finally got done. Years ago, there was a carve out of the pheasant season. I recall those years fondly, hunting with our son, without the crush of non resident hunters.

It would be WONDERFUL if they ever did something similar with the big game seasons. I will not hold my breath.

I think it would be an easy sell if you exempted private land like they did with birds.

Maybe not so far fetched. North Dakota (which I think may have been the model for this delayed NR bird opener) just added a 10 day delayed start for NR archery deer. As a NR in ND, I’m perfectly fine with it. And I kinda hope MT follows their big game lead.

When I lived in AK back in the 90s residents got 5 days of moose season before nonresidents started. They also had mandatory reporting. I am not sure if it is still that way.

The season runs through the end of December. Have some perspective.

I kind of like the idea too, even though it would be a boost to people wanting to commercialize hunting, because I don't see this happening if private land is not exempted. If this does happen though I might be in the market for a flack jacket just in case I have to go to the Custer during the third week of the season.

I read it a few times over, unless there's something in another chapter I'm missing it seems the delay is nothing more than who's doing the shooting.
