Here's a link to your local news story,
@hank4elk .
Thanks BHR. I forgot the time.
Catron county is the largest , least populated in state. 7500 sq. mi. , maybe 5k people now. Boomed after covid.
2800 when I moved here in 2009.
Cattle and hunting are the only income really. A small number visit the forest & wilderness.
My porch & barn are from the last mill. Gone now.
The Pie shop. A few cafes. Ella's in Reverse is good. Maybe 4 motels.
I can probably name 3 ranchers who do not run hunts or guide.
I am pretty much hated for my pro wildlife stance. I do not run cattle anymore. A money pit or tax write off if you ask me.
Same with being in E-plus. From HT for sure.
Local ranchers say they like the elk coming here...not them being here.
Got an earful when I told one gal I am planting trees & plants for wildlife.
Using my water for them? How dare I. Water is for cattle.
I just need to teach Dotti about CYA. Stick to the house area. She is hip to the yotes now, but not the bigger badder beasts.
Need to get the plants in and get my elk tags so we can use one and maybe someone else.
I will not sell them. It screws up my income level that has to stay where it is . Otherwise one of the cancer pills is not free and $3300/mo.
Native elk wiped out before the ranchers. Merriams.
These Rockies are thriving now. Cool.
This little storm will be interesting.
I'm about to hit 70 and enjoying my life. Screw the cancer.
Not afraid of a little wolf. Hope they don't bring back grizz here.
It's the 2 legged beast that concern me.
