Normally it's USDA APHIS responsible for predator control.

If this issue bothers you, start asking what recently happened to their staff and budget. And their union!

I've spent a lot of time in your neck of the woods. Have you ever read "Black Range Tales"? If not, I highly recommend it. You can usually find a copy on Thriftbooks etc. We don't visit much anymore. Even the Gila has been overrun with people. Almost bought land there at one point, glad we didn't.

I used to work with an LEO who became FS LEO on the Gila out of Reserve. Unfortunately, like you said there was a lack of appreciation for wildlife and a huge poaching problem.

I'd guess a small percentage of these cattle kills are actually attributable to wolf predation. I bet twice as many die from locoweed toxicity as they do from wolves. Although in the name of keeping goodwill, I think we should reimburse most claims where there is a dead cow or calf.

The kills are recorded, forensics done. Tooth mark measures, etc. Tracks. USF&W and G&F do the work.

US F&W jurisdiction. ESA critters are under their watch. Wolves particularly in NM & AZ.

My first time hunting in Carton county was over ten years ago for turkey and the wolf problem was just starting. The past three years that I’ve hunted in said country it has only worsened something really needs to be done and done soon

Just finished latest G&F Commish meeting.
2 of my county commish gave presentation on wolf problems. One is a neighbor.
Lots of problems since new US admin came in. Lack of staff & funding. USFW lost the 3 trappers working with ranchers in AZ & NM.
Drought & bad winter have made situation worse. Lack of water & feed.

Funding for range riders discussed. Western Landowners Ass. has a program in CO and wants to work in NM.

Will be a ton of folks at the meeting in Reserve in Aug. I imagine.
